A friend sent me a link to a very interesting podcast about the Hope Meadows project, set in Rantoul, Illinois.
This initiative connects seniors with foster children.
The idea is simple: seniors receive a discount on their rent in exchange for volunteering with foster children.
There are many benefits for both parties:
- the seniors are reintegrated into the community through this inter-generational initiative,
- they feel useful since they are helping someone else,
- the foster children receive attention and care.
Great way to create purpose and connection!
